Episode 101: What if Weddings Were Money-Making Events?
- Betty just read the United States benefited from 222+ million hours of forced labor between 1619 and the abolition of slavery in 1865. Taking US minimum wage and interest into account, that would be worth $97 trillion US dollars today. The total US budget for 2018 was $4.1 trillion dollars and Betty can’t afford for her tax burden to increase if reparation payments are made. Should Betty vote against an upcoming bill to discuss reparations?
- Yves is dating her conservative boyfriend Clayton and wants to talk to him about reparations. Clayton has said that everybody needs to work to earn their keep and the US has done enough for black Americans already. Should she bring up her point of view and risk breaking up with Clayton or should she just battle him silently?
- Wyndolyn wants everyone to ignore race and believes reparations for one group would eventually lead to another group asking for the same. She thinks this would just further divide people. Does she have a point?
