Episode 332: Is Rest a Right or a Privilege?
Scenario 1: Rann is a truck driver for an online retailer who pays their employees handsomely. To ensure timely deliveries the retailer has figured out a way to allow their truck drivers to drive for longer than legally allowed. Do you think Rann should be forced to get all his payloads delivered or be allowed some break time which will cause delays in all subsequent package deliveries?
Scenario 2: Mayim misread the bus schedule and thought that she could catch one in the next 10 minutes. The buses were not running for the day, so she decided to sleep on the bench until they started running again. An officer of the law woke her up from her 12 hour slumber, telling her she needed to move. Can she tell the officer that resting is a right?
Scenario 3: Lakayana was recently incarcerated for a crime she feels she did not commit. After lunch she snuck a biscuit back to her cell, because she is used to eating smaller meals throughout the day. This prison facility punishes inmates who break the rules using questionable tactics. Lakayana was ratted out by a fellow inmate, so they put her in a room filled with bright light for 24 hours to prevent her from sleeping. Do you think rest is a right or a privilege?
